Lemon season – 5 great uses for lemons

You are here: Home / BUY / Seasonal eating / Lemon season – 5 great uses for lemons

24/07/2015 By //  by Jen Leave a Comment

Lemons are plentiful at this time of year, so here are some great uses for your lovely lemons that everyone can enjoy.

You can’t go past homemade lemonade. Why stop at making some for your family? Grab the kids, squeeze up a storm and hold a lemonade stand outside your house. Get the kids to chalk the paths to let neighbours know, and pick your favourite charity to donate the funds to. A little baking on the side will help drive up profits too.

Lemon curd is such a great dish. Make some little lemon curd tarts using store-bought pastry and you will have them in no time. Also perfect on pancakes. This fast microwave recipe is so easy you will find yourself making lemon curd regularly.

Lemon juice is great when added to icing sugar to top apple cakes or muffins. Check out the lovely Danish apple tart with lemon icing topping.

Lemon makes for a great marinade. On the app you’ll find the lemon and fennel marinade, and the lemon and garlic marinade. When you get home from the shopping, marinate your meat straight away and then freeze it. Take the meat out from the freezer on the morning you are cooking it, and you only need to cook it that night with a quick salad or your favourite veggies. Dinner done.

Preserved lemon is also a great addition to Moroccan dishes or use it to flavour a roast chicken. The recipe is on the app too.

What is your favourite lemon recipe?

Tip of the week

Salads are best served at room temperature. If making them in advance, take them out of the refrigerator in time to get to room temp.
